About This Project

Oddlings are small, whimsical characters. They begin either on the pottery wheel or as hand-built forms before being altered by hand. With oversized eyes, bright colours, and slightly goofy expressions. Each Oddling develops its own personality somewhere between the clay, the glaze, and the kiln. These are four of my earliest Oddlings creations. They began as wheel-thrown forms that I later altered by adding and removing clay to create faces and expressions. Glazing them has been a journey — in the beginning, I favoured bright interiors paired with dramatic exteriors. Looking back at these pieces, I’m reminded of how much I loved making big mouths and tongues, something I don’t do as often now but would like to explore again.
